Can you tell us a little about your background before starting at your company?
I was born and raised on Long Island, moved to Brooklyn in 2006, and now split my time between Mexico City and New York.
I’m entirely self-taught. School never worked for me — learning always did, just not in a classroom. I started as a designer, moved into engineering, then product and project management, and eventually technical strategy. I picked up each layer because a client needed it and there was nobody else to do it. That path is why I tend to look at technology decisions as business decisions first; I’ve had to sit in every seat that a bad one lands on.
How did you start at your company? What were the first steps you took to get it off the ground and how did you identify the need for your product/service in the market?
Nolte has had a lot of chapters. It’s where I learned everything I know — the business grew alongside my own ability — and in many ways it’s functioned as an incubator, first for my own companies and now for our partners’.
We took equity in a company we helped build, Information Machine, and sold it in 2021. I also built a business unit inside Nolte, spun it out as its own entity, and sold it last year. That’s the pattern: we help our partners innovate, and we apply the same discipline to ourselves.
Today we’re focused on insurance — MGAs, brokers, and insurtechs, at both early and growth stage. Two reasons we chose it. First, insurance touches customers in every industry, and as innovation creates new markets — AI most obviously — it creates new categories of risk that need products built for them. That’s a durable, expanding opportunity. Second, the technical and compliance complexity is genuinely difficult, and we’ve built a team that can both think through the right solution and execute it. In this industry, that combination is rarer than it should be.
What innovations or unique features set your company apart from others in the industry?
Our delivery model. To my knowledge, Nolte is the first company in the market operating this way: we charge only for what we deliver, and we deliver predictably. The estimation risk sits with us, not the client. For an insurtech operating against a board plan or a carrier commitment, that changes what a technology partner actually is.
Behind it is NolteOS, our methodology. With the leverage AI now provides, we’re investing heavily in NolteOS and in the team to become the most efficient technology partner a founder or operator can have. We’re also an Anthropic certified partner, which keeps us close to that curve rather than reacting to it.
The other difference is who’s in the room. Yanna, our Head of Product, and I have both built and exited companies. We lead with the business, not the technology. As a partner we’ll challenge how you’re building the company, and we tie our work directly to clear business objectives — if we can’t draw the line from a piece of work to an outcome that matters to you, we shouldn’t be building it.
What has been the most effective strategy for scaling your business?
We’re deliberate about how we grow, because partnerships cut both ways. We’re a small team by design, and I look to align with astute founders and operators who are as committed to us as we are to them. That’s slower, and it’s harder. But it’s healthy growth — we retain our people, we hold healthy revenue, and our partners stay.
Startups carry enormous risk, and by choosing this vertical we’ve taken on managing that risk in the technology side of the business. That only works when both sides are serious about it.
The other lever has been publishing daily. It helps people understand how I actually think before we ever speak, and it’s connected me to others working on the same problems in this industry. That, plus investing in relationships where there’s real symbiosis on both sides, has done more for growth than anything transactional.
Looking ahead, what are your goals for the future of your company?
Invest in your health and wellbeing first. As a founder, the business flourishes behind that — not ahead of it.
Think deeply about your decisions and be clear on where your responsibility actually sits. Pick a niche, validate it early, and invest as it starts to grow. And if you’re building an AI startup: know your competition and be honest with yourself about your ability to win.
My goal is to build Nolte into a known force multiplier in insurance — for MGAs, insurtechs, and brokers. The mission is to raise the bar for what a technology partner is in this industry.
If you’re an insurance founder or operator building something technically or regulatorily hard — an MGA standing up its own stack, an insurtech scaling past its first platform, a broker modernizing operations — I’d like to hear from you. Find me at nolte.io or on LinkedIn.
