Q4 Is Coming: What Should Already Be in Your GTM Pipeline?

Blog_9.1.26

September has a way of feeling like a fresh start for B2B teams. Summer schedules are winding down, buyers are back at their desks, major industry events are approaching, and there is still enough time on the calendar to make a meaningful push before year-end.

But if Q4 is when your company plans to accelerate growth, the work cannot start in October.

For InsurTech, FinTech, HealthTech, and other B2B technology companies with long sales cycles, crowded markets, and complex buying committees, the strongest Q4 pipelines are built well before the quarter begins.

Here is what should already be moving.

1. Your Q4 Target Accounts

By September, your sales team should know exactly which accounts matter most through the end of the year.

That means moving beyond a broad ICP and identifying the specific companies, decision-makers, and opportunities you want to pursue. Which prospects have already engaged with your content? Who did you meet earlier this year but never convert? Which accounts could have remaining 2026 budget or be planning investments for 2027?

Marketing should be building air cover around those accounts now. Thought leadership, targeted campaigns, executive content, case studies, and strategic outreach should make your company familiar before a salesperson asks for the meeting.

2. Your Fall Event Strategy

The fall event calendar gets crowded quickly.

Whether your team is attending a major conference, hosting a dinner, sponsoring a happy hour, or simply traveling to meet prospects, the event itself should not be the beginning of your strategy.

Your target list, outreach, meetings, content, and follow-up plan should already be taking shape.

Instead of asking, “How many leads did we collect?” after an event, start with a better question: “Who do we need to meet while everyone is in the same city?”

Ten conversations with the right buyers can be far more valuable than 300 badge scans.

3. Your Proof Points

Buyers heading into Q4 have heard enough promises.

They want proof.

This is the time to turn your strongest customer outcomes into assets your sales team can actually use. That could mean a case study, ROI story, customer quote, benchmark, before-and-after result, or even a concise slide that makes the value of your product immediately clear.

Do not wait for the perfect 10-page case study. One strong metric with context can give your sales team something tangible to bring into a conversation.

4. Your 2027 Narrative

It may still be 2026, but your buyers are already thinking about next year.

Budgets are being discussed. Priorities are being set. Teams are deciding which problems deserve investment and which projects can wait.

Your content should meet buyers in that conversation.

What will change in your market next year? What should companies be preparing for now? Where are budgets moving? What risks are becoming harder to ignore?

The companies that shape these conversations early have a better chance of making their solution part of the budget later.

5. Your Follow-Up Engine

The biggest Q4 pipeline problem is not always a lack of leads. Sometimes it is the number of good conversations that quietly go nowhere.

Look at the prospects your team has already accumulated this year: event contacts, webinar attendees, newsletter subscribers, inbound leads, old opportunities, founder introductions, and “circle back later” conversations.

Later is here.

Build a structured re-engagement plan now. Give sales a reason to reopen the conversation, whether that is new product news, a relevant insight, a customer result, an event invitation, or a useful piece of content.
