Can you tell us a little about your background before starting your company?

Before founding Shuttlebee, I led operations at venture-backed companies, including at Bus.com and previously ran an award-winning student transportation company. Prior to that — before I blew up my career to launch a student transportation company —  I spent fifteen years in corporate marketing roles.  Those experiences gave me firsthand exposure to the pain points in school transportation from every angle — from insurance hurdles to compliance and safety gaps — and inspired me to build a better solution for schools, families, and small operators.

How did you start your company? What were the first steps you took to get it off the ground and how did you identify the need for your product/service in the market?

Shuttlebee started with hundreds of discovery conversations with parents, schools, and transportation providers. I kept hearing the same thing: families needed safe, flexible options, and schools struggled to manage programs efficiently. The first steps were validating regulatory and insurance requirements, building partnerships with experienced underwriters, and creating a “predict-and-prevent” dispatch model that aligned technology, compliance, and safety from day one.

What innovations or unique features set your company apart from others in the industry?

What sets Shuttlebee apart is our human-in-the-loop “predict-and-prevent” dispatch system, paired with embedded insurance and compliance tools. We aren’t just connecting rides — we’re helping schools and small operators prevent risk before it happens, while giving administrators real-time visibility and parents peace of mind. It’s a true blend of EdTech, InsurTech, and operations know-how.

What has been the most effective strategy for scaling your business?

Our most effective growth strategy has been partnering directly with independent schools and special-needs programs to launch pilot projects. By focusing on high-trust, high-need communities first, we’ve been able to refine our model, accelerate learnings, and convert pilots into paying customers. We also invest in training through Shuttlebee University, which helps operators and schools adopt best practices faster.

Looking ahead, what are your goals for the future of your company?

Looking ahead, our goals are to scale Shuttlebee nationally by expanding our dispatch and insurance footprint, deepen our partnerships with schools and families, and build the leading marketplace for compliant, safe, small-scale student transportation. Long-term, we see Shuttlebee as the trusted backbone for the “next generation of yellow bus alternatives.”
